Dark brown skin and long white hair

Growing up in the Philippines, I have always been exposed to this idea of the colonial mentality. See, they were colonized by Spain, the United States and other countries before we have our independence. So, basically, to be "white" is to be cool. Or rich. Or important. But what everyone wanted to be.

All ogled when they saw a white man in the street. People think that someone is important, if they see that you have friends or go out with one. And if they are "average" or related to someone from another country and who are above all.

I have friends all the world. I met the different parts and stages of my life, and we are also different from each other as a Benetton ad. If there really is something I learned from everyone which are now part of my life, but not necessarily live next to me, is that we are all equal. We all have the same elements. That each culture is different, but if open your eyes and you and your home, even if the devil you heart, you see that the person who speaks a different language completely different from yours can be your own soul. Anyone, regardless of skin color or hair shade, has dreams and frustrations, and the theater with their boyfriends or girlfriends, and secrets. Everyone has a story to share.

I always get the "Oh Elaine has a lot of white friends" comments – sometimes as a form of ridicule, sometimes as a form of flattery, and sometimes as a form of jealousy. What I feel most of the time is wrong.

I choose my friends, not their skin color or the way the accent is exotic mine, but by how they treat me the way to treat others, how we learn, by their values and how they see life. I do not care if you look like a model that is outside of the track, Ralph Lauren or forgotten what a razor blade after it in the back of the islands of the Philippines or in Europe. Not even matter if you can write a perfect English or can not speak Tagalog.

I know that some people just want to have a friend abroad. Boyfriend or a stranger. Well, I understand. It seems cool. But at the end of the day, you can see that the person is not his appearance but for what they are. This is a joke or share a language they can understand both. You know you have moved, the physical form and the things that you know the things you see on the outside are not really say much about what's in your heart.

The irony is that the people closest to me are those who live farther away from me. Thank God for the Internet to feel closer. But it is wrong in a society where people think that are different just because you mingle with people from another country can get frustrating. It's as if sometimes treats me like a foreigner. That people can not relate to me. In Actually, I like someone else.

I am Elaine. I am a Filipino. I have a tan skin and long hair dark brown. I know that if you like me, because you cree that this combination seems exotic. Can detect spam. I am a mixture of grown and where all the other new places, has the floor. Myself to the left and pieces my heart to people I May never see again and I brought with me. I know that when you love me. And I know that I love you too, so do not look, but for whom you are.

What I am trying to say, I hope that people can spend the whole thing white skin or traces of colonial mentality in the way they see other people. French what type sitting next to you like Burger King, just like you. This makes your shoes more often as Australia does. South Africa, who was walking down the street? You can eat as many ballot, most likely, as you can in one sitting.

See beyond the skin and be proud of who you are.
